چکیده

This paper develops a general equilibrium, continuous time model where portfolio constraints generate mispricing between redundant securities. Constrained consumption-portfolio optimization techniques are adapted to incorporate redundant, possibly mispriced, securities. Under logarithmic preferences, we provide explicit conditions for mispricing and closed-form expressions for all economic quantities. Existence of an equilibrium where mispricing occurs with positive probability is veri ̄ed in a speci ̄c case. In a more general setting, we demonstrate the necessity of mispricing for equilibrium when agents are heterogeneous enough. The construction of a representative agent with stochastic weights allows us to characterize prices and allocations, given mispricing occurs. The Rodney L. White Center for Financial Research Nonlinear Taxation, Tax Arbitrage and Equilibrium Asset Prices

This paper investigates the equilibrium implications of the presence of nonlinearly taxed, redundant securities, and of the resulting tax arbitrage opportunities. Heterogeneity in taxation leads to discrepancies in assets' pre-tax market prices of risk. We show that this mispricing is set so that agents e®ectively cooperate to minimize aggregate taxes, even though individually each agent may no...

The Rodney L. White Center for Financial Research Equilibrium Cross-Section of Returns

We explicitly link expected stock returns to Þrm characteristics such as Þrm size and book-to-market ratio in a dynamic general equilibrium production economy. Despite the fact that stock returns in the model are characterized by an intertemporal CAPM with the market portfolio as the only factor, size and book-to-market play separate roles in describing the cross-section of returns. These Þrm c...

Loan Portfolio Diversification, Market Structure and Financial Stability of Banks

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of bank loan portfolio diversification and market structure on the financial stability of banks in the countrychr('39')s capital market. In order to achieve the above goal, the financial data of 17 banks have been used as unbalanced panels in the period from 2005 to 2018. In this study, data analysis was performed using fixed effects model...

The Rodney L. White Center for Financial Research The Effects of a Baby Boom on Stock Prices and Capital Accumulation in the Presence of Social Security

Is the stock market boom a result of the baby boom? This paper develops an overlapping generations model in which a baby boom is modeled as a high realization of a random birth rate, and the price of capital is determined endogenously by a convex cost of adjustment. A baby boom increases national saving and investment and thus causes an increase in the price of capital. The price of capital is ...

The Rodney L. White Center for Financial Research The Neoclassical Theory of Investment in Speculative Markets

In this paper I investigate whether firms’ physical investments should react to the speculative overpricing of their securities. I introduce investment subject to quadratic adjustment costs (along the lines of Abel and Eberly [1994]) in an infinite horizon continuous time model with short sale constraints and heterogeneous beliefs (along the lines of Scheinkman and Xiong [2003]). Under standard...
